A Lesson in Layering and winter fashion

A Lesson in Layering

Winter is well and truly here, whether we like it or not. But if you’re like us, the thought of excessive cups of tea, curling up on the couch and wearing cosy knits, gives us the warm and fuzzy’s! But what we really love is winter fashion- the season of layers, layers, layers! And it’s not just clothes you can layer. A hot trend this season is jewellery layering. So how can you achieve a layered look this winter?

First things first, forget what you’ve been told about ‘before you go out the door, look in the mirror and take one thing off’. Instead, we agree with Mae West, that ‘too much of a good thing is wonderful!’ To achieve a layered look is simple- just try to not over think it! When it comes to layering necklaces, the most important thing is to vary the lengths. Layering two or even three dainty necklaces at different lengths is the perfect complement to a V-neck shirt. Or stick to a theme, with similar shapes, like a gold circle pendant, hanging from different length chains. And if you’re feeling daring, mismatch rose gold, gold and white gold chains.

Rings worn at different lengths on your finger is another trend this season. Dress up an oversized knit by accessorising with rings of various widths but similar styles. Next time you’re jewellery shopping, make sure you try different sized rings, to make sure you can wear rings on different parts on the finger.

Accessorising with earrings is yet another way to embrace the layered look this winter. If you have multiple holes, pair ear cuffs with simple studs on each earlobe. Or if hoops are more your thing, a small hoop alongside an even smaller hoop is a real hot trend. Keep in mind that both earlobes don’t have to be symmetrical! And if you only have one hole pierced, ear climbers are the perfect solution to still achieve a layered look.
