The Kimberley is one of Australia’s last frontiers of wild outback, bordered by steep coastlines and fierce deserts. From desolate peaks to spectacular waterfalls, it truly is home to some of Australia’s most amazing landscapes.
Given its reputation, it’s almost no surprise that one of the world’s most unique landscapes is also home to one of the world’s rarest diamonds – Pink Argyle diamonds.
The Pink Argyle diamond is incredibly rare and can only be found in one place in the world; the Argyle Diamond Mine in the Kimberley region of Western Australia. To put the rarity of this particular diamond in perspective; for every million tonnes of rough diamonds that come out of the Argyle mine only one carat is suitable for sale at the very exclusive Argyle Diamond tender. Now that’s rare!
Pink diamonds come in a range of shades and intensities, from pale blush pink champagne tones to a very intense purple-pink that is even rarer.
To this day, the colour of pink diamonds remains a mystery.
Where the colour of yellow and cognac diamonds can be attributed to the presence of nitrogen when they are formed, the source of pink colouring for the rare argyle diamond has yet to be established. There’s nothing quite like a bit of mystery to add an extra touch of romance to this already beautiful stone.
It’s important to note that these rare diamonds are soon to become even rarer as the Argyle mine is close to the end of production and therefore the only pink diamonds to exist will be those already in circulation. So take a piece of the Kimberley with you whenever you wear one of our stunning pink diamond creations before you miss out.
